MidDot - A Stencil Font

Postby Dave Crosby » Wed Mar 19, 2008 1:26 pm

I've been working on this idea for several months. It started as a Scanahand test, and with suggestions from the Texas Dude has shaped up. He didn't like it that the dots in the lc were lower than those in the uc.
I agreed and moved the lc up to center at 800 units. I think that is a good solution. Any more suggestions?

I must admit I'm not happy with the "y."
I tried it with the j hook, longer and shorter ...

Perhaps the Cap dots should be the same size as lc?

Gee Dave I like it... Unique design which is hard to do nowadays. It's not eroded, scribbled or distressed -- good too. I like the raised lc/lowered uc effect. It wouldn't work for long passages of text but probably looks effective at large sizes.

I thought the smaller lc dot looks in proportion too. You could some up with all sorts of variations to the theme -- ragged dots, holey dots, other letter styles -- gothic/Old English, scripts, Western, Mexican, hollow, art deco, multiline, and so on. Start of a career.

Good show!

Now I am really worried.
It wouldn't work for long passages of text

Agreed! But stencils are cut out for addresses and spray on labels so short stuff is the order of the day.

Seriously, (as if!) The ! had to be changed or be confused with | and other glyphs.
The " absolutely had to change, along with all the other punctuation. The Mid Dots weren't!
I shortened the y tail.
It is getting gooder. Who knows, some day it may even be better!
