Nice looking script font. Is this a sample of your hand writing? Very Nice... TD

I wish!

This is my version of the handwriting of a girl named Yolanda that I knew in Uruguay in 1957.
I never heard from her again and have no idea if she is still alive or not.

Re: Yolanda Revisited

(Guess I wasn't logged for this -- surprised I could submit something).

(1957 was a very good year ... Let's see, I was 3 or 4 , may be more... I didn't even talk to girls much less write to them until a couple of years ago!!)

I played with Yolanda a little(?!) and think there's a problem with the left side bearings -- which I hadn't noticed before in other fonts. Since there is a large white space to the left of each capital letter (~300-500), when a cap starts on the left margin there is an indent that appears like a small or short tab. Possibly the left side bearing has to be smaller? I looked at another heavy script font which also had a positive left side bearing (~100-200) and had such a false indent. Was surprised. Learned something new. I would recommend that you reduce that value (to ?) however to minimize that "disruption".

Interestingly, in MS Word, you can show some formatting characters - tabs or carriage returns and the like, but because the font doesn't define those glyphs, they don't show on the document. They're there because the font has kept the glyph definition, but no black mark. If you remove the empty glyphs you get the notdef character. Guess you must define and draw them funny letters too.

Still itsa nice font. TD

This I have to look into!
Only registered users were able to submit anywhere with the phpBB2 version of this site.
phpBB3 handles things differently. When I started the Cooking Board it was several days before I noticed only Moderators could see it. Fixing this is job one today.

problem with the left side bearings

Flowing scripts require the right bearing to be moved several hundred units to the right for proper merging.

Without compensating Left side bearing adjustments the font ends up producing an illegible jumble.
So with flowing scripts virtually all bearings must be set manually.

Check it out for yourself to see if I be lying.

I Take Up The Challenge!

1. When displayed in the all together the font appears "well adjusted" which means the Advance Width is ok. That's Good!
2. When used in "aligned-situations" e.g., at the start of paragraphs, there is a gap before the character. Therefore, the glyph is too far to the right in the letter space, that is, there is too much blank space before the letter.
3. So, move the letter to the left, by reducing the "white space before the letter", effective the Left Side Bearing, to zero.

That isn't exactly right as some letters (GJ, etc.) have special considerations because of their loops. But it will otherwise be perfect, of course.....

So did you look at the resulting font using Compare? How is it working?

'member, I don't use Compare, Preview, Samples, Kerning, Background, Align/Distribute, Lock Guidelines or Scanahand! Don't know how to use those things because they came along after I bought the product .... (not!)

I do use Transform, Import Image, Test Font, Sort, Drawing, Measure Length, Transformer, Autometrics, Autonaming and sometimes Grayscale and Tables. Justa basic tool set is all I need. Simple guy, simple tools, simply wonderful. TD

:D Thanks! for the nice looking font. I, of course, will be using it on my scrapbook pages! LOL!
And if I continue to read this board, I might have to cave in and try making fonts too.

Don't I wish! But You can probably still get in on Beta Testing of Scanahand.

BTW I didn't update this version of Yolanda. That is on the big board at High-Logic in the Gallery section.

Aww, here it is again:

Thanks for the most current version. BTW, just to nag, do you see the amount of space between the dbl quote " and the The in your sample? That's an example of having too much white space before each letter.

But it's your font and you can do whatever you want to with it. (I should learn never to criticize a designer who spends too much time putting something together that .. and I won't critique your children either even though they might look like you... )

This is really not related the prev thought but isn't it funny humans look into a mirror and believe they see Mr Universe or Miss America but when we look at them we see Yoda or Jaba ... Familiarity breeds acceptance/attachment/luve.

I'll probably come back and edit this down in a day or two.

And notice how the U collides with the T up at the top? An example of not enough white space before the U, but T needs to be close to lower case so I should have adjusted some spaces with Kerning, but Auto kerning didn't make much difference.
It is a case of Tarnationed if you do and Tarnationed if you don't.

BTW, you can do what you want with your version of it too. My 10,000 lawyers will not bother you.

Thanks for the offer. I sent it to my Free Font Exchanging Groups and they sent it back ... too much space at the start of capitals...
